Introduction.

We have a lot of things at our home that our forefathers have given us and it's our responsibility to preserve our heritage and pass it to the next generation. This tradition is followed in  the whole world. Everybody values their things and they can not replace these things or sell them too.

Main Answer.

Here I am going to talk about a car that my grandfather used to drive and today my dad also uses this car. It is well preserved in our family.

- What is it - When did your family have it?

It's a classic car which my grandfather bought when he got a promotion in his job. My grandfather was very attached to this car and took very good care of his Contessa. My father also has very important memories with this car. His first day in school to College days my dad really loves this car. He does regular maintenance of this car and takes me for a long ride every now and then. So I have also attached to this car.

- How did your family get it?

Actually my grandfather bought it brand new in the late sixties and from then it is kept in our family. My father, uncle and others love this car today my grandfather is no more but his car makes us feel alive.

- And explain why it is important for your family.

We all love our grandpa and he has great significance in our lives. We have seen our good and bad days together. And our dear car was always with us. We have visited many places together as a family and spent a lot of time together in this car. My father went to his first job in this car. We took our grandfather to the hospital in his car in his last days. So we have great importance of this car in our family. It's not a machine, it's a family member to us and for me it is my grandpa.

Follow Up Questions.

Which do you think are better, old things or new things?

Old things have their own significance and they are our heritage. Some old things are invaluable today. While new things have the latest technology and features, today's things are not durable in comparison to the past. So old things have memories attached and new things have features and updates in technology.

As well as family photographs, what are some other things that people keep in their family for a long time?

People keep old vehicles and furniture, gold and silver ornaments, Copper vessels and many other things. These things have a long life and they can be preserved very well.

In your culture, what sorts of things do people often pass down from generation to generation? (Why?)

In our culture this is passed on to the next generation. Land, gold and silver metals and ornaments, furniture, family holdings, these are some things that are passed on to the next generation. In some cases skills are also passed on to the next generation.

Why do you think people keep these things?

People keep these things as a part of tradition and culture and they have a strong emotional connection with their family so they do not want to let go of these things. They keep these things in the family and preserve these things for a long time laten on this becomes a tradition in the family.

What are the benefits (= what is the value/what is the importance) of keeping some old things in the family?

Nobody can decide the value of these old things. These things are invaluable to those families which have memories attached with these things. Looking at this things one can remember their whole childhood and young age so  it's a biggest benefit to stay attached to our memories while preserving these things.

Do you think it's good to recall the past?

Definitely yes, if the past is bright and shining it's good to recall. And if there are dark shades and bad memories one should learn lessons from it and forget the remaining things.
